California QSO Party 2015

W6E CQP Expedition to Tuolumne County

The California QSO Party is an event wherein Radio Amateurs activate all California counties for the purpose of ensuring radio readiness in the event of disasters; natural or otherwise.

Of all the state QSO parties, CQP is by far the largest, best organized and most fun.
Essentially, the CQP event is a world-wide contest - one of the reasons it is such a popular event.

George (N6GEO) & Ron (WQ6X) operated from a cabin in Twain Harte
California - Tuolumne county.

Stations are allowed to operate 24 out of the 30 hours of the Qso Party. For 2015, CQP ran from 9:00 am PDT (16:00 UTC) on Saturday October 3 to 3:00 pm (22:00 UTC) on Sunday October 4.

California stations count each of the 50 states and 8 Canadian provinces as multiplers. Non-CA stations count each of the 58 California counties as multipliers.

There was to be a 1 hour practice event on Friday evening starting with C.W. at 7pm and SSB at 7:30pm; each for 30 mins.
WQ6X worked ONE station on CW and heard NO ONE on SSB.

Because this year marks CQP 50, a special GOLDRUSH bonus in the form of medallion coins are being awared to stations with 150+ QSOs in the log who also work stations spelling out GOLDRUSH.

A special page as been created to track the
24 BONUS stations.

In CQP, radio amateurs from around the world endeavor to contact amateurs in California
on the standard shortwave radio bands of 160, 80/75, 40, 20, 15 & 10 meters.

The 2014 CQP results were released in February 2015.
Our K6U operation not only took FIRST PLACE for LP in Contra Costa county - we set a new county record!
We made contacts on all bands from 80-meters (3.5 mhz) to 10-meters (28 mhz).

For CQP 2015 The solar flux was in the < 110 range - bummer dewd!
