Operations
in the California QSO Party
Since 2000 KX6H/WQ6X has participated in the California QSO Party (CQP), a competition sponsored by the Northern California Contest Club (N.C.C.C.). CQP is a contest wherein California radio amateurs activate radio communications from all 58 California counties, using as many different modes as possible, including: C.W., Voice, and mobile & maritime operations (such as K6S) on the major amateur bands of 160, 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2 meters.
Many
stations (such as W6KC operating as W6ML)
make expeditions to counties with very little radio activity to
insure those counties are properly represented during the CQP
weekend. WQ6X has been a part of some of those expeditions.
From 2004
- 2007 WQ6X organized a number of other expedition operations from
Ventura county.
From 2010
onward WQ6X & N6GEO have conducted Multi-2 expeditions.
From 2000
- 2003, I gained my CQP experience by joining the multi-multi
operations at W6ML
in
Mammoth Lake (Mono
County) sponsored by Jim-W6KC.
As Sunspot
Cycle 23 began its inevitable decline, in 2004 Jim reverted to
single-OP status and I moved-on to make several activations in
Ventura County from a then unoccupied multi-millon
dollar house in Ojai (east of Ventura) using the W6K callsign.
For 2004 - 2007 WQ6X setup in Ojai using the special-event callsign W6C (see below) taking a break during 2008-2009.
In 2010 WQ6X teamed up with long-time friend N6GEO to activate Modoc County as K6M.
In 2011 N6GEO and WQ6X took 1st Place for Sacramento county operating from a boat on the river as K6S.
For 2012, as K6M, N6GEO and WQ6X returned to Modoc county with another dual station setup from an RV and an outdoor operator tent (Aka the K6M disaster-pedition).
In 2013, the Dynamic Duo made yet a another triumphant return to Modoc county, this time as W6C; with another dual station setup using 2010's tent trailer and the 2012 operator tent, garnering a 1st place for the LP Expedition category.
In 2014, N6GEO and WQ6X plans to operate as K6U from a cabin in Twain Harte got side-lined in favor of an operation from Brentwood in Contra Costa county where K6U set a new county record - even MORE cool.
For 2015, N6GEO & WQ6X ressurected the original 2014 plan operating as W6E from a cabin in Twain Harte - Tuolumne County - taking a county 1st place in the 50th anniversary GOLDRUSH event.
For 2016, WQ6X operated solo as W6K from the Twain Harte cabin setting a low power record for Tuolumne County.
For 2017, WQ6X operated solo as K6T from a portable setup in Concord setting a low power record for Contra Costa County.
For 2018, WQ6X dual-OP'd solo as W6C from a portable setup in Concord - Contra Costa County and as part of the NX6T team. WQ6X took 1st place for Contra Costa (CCOS) while team NX6T took 2nd place for San Diego county.
For 2019, WQ6X dual-OP'd solo as W6C from a portable setup in Concord - Contra Costa County and as part of the NX6T team in Fallbrook.
For 2020, LooK for K6C in Contra Costa county and contributing a few hours remotely to the NX6T multi-OP effort in Fallbrook (SDG).
